Training Program
Kathleen (Kay) Adams, LPC, PTR, MM/S

Poetry Therapy
As of Spring 2008, my training practice is limited to journal therapy.  I am currently not accepting new trainees for the Certified Applied Poetry Facilitator (CAPF), Certified Poetry Therapist (CPT) or Registered Poetry Therapist (PTR).  I am completing training plans with those who began a Federation-approved training plan with me prior to 2008.

Journal Therapy
For those who wish to "double-major" in poetry therapy and journal therapy, the Federation has approved the Certified Journal Facilitator/Certified Clinical Journal Facilitator (CJF/CCJF) program as a direct transfer of 50% of hours in all categories for the CAPF, CPT or PTR.  The CJF program also meets Federation requirements for core competencies in psychology.  Trainees who wish this option will select another Federation mentor/supervisor for the poetry therapy portion of the training program.

The CJF or CCJF is a program that is designed to be completed in 18 months (6 10-week quarters), on average. It is a comprehensive training that utilizes the latest technologies to create virtual classrooms online via internet learning platforms, teleconferencing, and audio/video downloads.  Although face-to-face training opportunities are available in Denver and elsewhere around the country, it is possible to do the entire program by distance learning.  In addition to high-tech learning delivery systems, there are also classic learning methods: reading, writing, hands-on facilitation, and individual and group supervision in person and by telephone.

The CJF program requires, on average, 8-12 hours per week during the strictly "classroom" quarters and 12-16 hours/week when facilitation is added in to structured coursework.  Almost all work is asynchronous, meaning you can study 24/7 – except for scheduled sessions, we don't have appointed classroom time.  Early birds and night owls alike find the program is sufficiently flexible, when combined with good time management skills, to merge in with work and family.

Applications are accepted for Fall and Spring admissions to the CJF and CCJF training program.  Class size is limited to 12.  Information about this program may be requested by calling or emailing or via my website, journaltherapy.com. A personal interview is required and may be scheduled by email or phone (see the "Contact Me" section).
